| New book aims to help dads By BRANDON WILE
Most fathers would not list expressing their feelings as one of their top qualities.
Most dads have a tough time expressing their wishes and relaying their little bits of knowledge to their children.
On the other side, most children think they are bulletproof and their parents cannot relate and will never understand, so these messages get stuck in limbo.
That was until local colleagues Dana Doiron and Tyler Hayden developed the idea for a new book, "Father's Message in a Bottle."
The book will feature submissions from all kinds of dads from different walks of life to their children. The goal is not only a chance for dads to share their thoughts and ideas with their kids, but also to provide a legacy for their hopes and dreams in the future.
"‘Message in a Bottle' is a legacy that we can help to feed the minds and hearts of our children with," said Mr. Hayden.
"Parenting is a process, not a product, so we hope we can provide wisdom, leaving a legacy to benefit their future."
So far they have received between 70 and 100 submissions. One is from an astronaut who wrote to his son while in space. Another is from a Second World War veteran who wrote his letter before going off to war. One is from a man whose son was killed in a terrorist attack, and the list goes on.
Mr. Hayden has a four-year-old daughter and is expecting another child in the next few weeks. He is still deciding what message he will submit.
"I am torn between two. My father recently passed away so I was thinking of that, but also my daughter once told me if I use my imagination anything will come true, so I am leaning towards writing one to her." Mr. Doiron has rewritten his submission numerous times where he recounts the things he has experienced with his older children that he wishes to pass down to his younger ones.
Mr. Hayden and Mr. Doiron hope this is only the beginning in a series which they hope to open to mothers, brothers, sisters and others. The pair are still looking for submissions from any father who wishes to tell his story. Submissions can be made at www.messageinabottlebook.com.
"We are seeking new letters from dads who have lots of things to say. Whether you're a fisherman or on Wall Street, each is equally important," said Mr. Hayden.
The two are hoping to have the final copy ready for October.
